The Future of Talent Management in Architecture: Trends and Predictions

The world of talent management has changed at an eye-watering pace in recent years, especially given the pandemic and wider rapid adoption of new tech worldwide. Here we look into the impact on the world of architecture talent management of these changing trends, and what we're expecting to see going into the future.

Remote Work

No self-respecting writer can muse on employment changes over the last few years without mentioning remote work. The rapid rise of Zoom, Teams and similar platforms to facilitate remote and hybrid working had felt like a distant future prior to the pandemic. Architectural firms are now forced to facilitate high spec but mobile technology to allow their workforce to build and manage high spec software on the move, with seamless access and rapid performance. This extensive level of transformation creates challenges for smaller operations who lack the resources to kit out their teams with high grade technology both in-office and at home - the tech prices have almost doubled in many cases. This is only likely to continue, and the shift to cloud-based computing is likely to be a permanent shift, with SaaS platforms cashing in on the necessity for group level access to working files.

Sustainable Focus

With the green movement remaining top of the pops in political policy-making, these are considerations that are only likely to grow as time goes on. The architectural sector is at the forefront of how this impacts the built world around us, and as policies become stricter around sourcing materials and sustainable development, architectural firms will have to pivot and adopt new practices to ensure they remain compliant and progressive. We foresee real opportunity in practices that openly adopt sustainable practices.

Diversity & Inclusion

Like every industry across the UK particularly - we're seeing improvements in the adoption of a diverse and inclusive practices; albeit at a slow pace. Notwithstanding the challenges brought about by isolationist politics and reactionary political movements, the broad trend toward improvement across diversity is unquestionable and universally positive. The inclusion and support of a wider workforce, and the awareness and understanding of differing life experiences will only enhance the creative development process, bringing new ideas and solutions to the table from which the whole professional community will benefit.
